Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder user reviews

""I love Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder, this camera has everything you need. A mic Jack, a headphone jack, and a DV wire and many other ports, a perfect camera in my video class. The only thing is that it doesn't have an A/V Input, which means you can't record off of a VCR, unless it has firewire, which none of my VCR have."

"Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder is a great camera in a small package. The HDV footage is stunning in clarity. The Super SteadyShot really works well as long as fast zooms and pans aren't in the plan. The NightShot is super fun to use at dimly lit parties and events. Smooth Slow Record is a blast! Tape something with lots of motion (volleyball serve, trampoline flip) and dissect it. Coonectivity is great with component video, AV, and HDMI outputs. All this functionality in a camera that fits in your pocket (almost) is awesome! most of the time...
Some of the buttons are too small and hard to reach if the LCD screen is out. Also, the manual focus control is difficult to use. It is a scroll wheel which is hard to control. A focus ring would have made this camera much better.
Overall, I would recommend this camera for anyone who wants to shoot HD footage of family events or even use professionally as a 2nd or 3rd camera as a stand alone on a shoot of an event. "
""I'm using Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder as part of a class that is teaching people to do video taping and editing for TV quickly and professionally. In fact it was recommended by my teachers as the one to purchase. I'm glad I did, with their direction and my own knowledge of photography it is easy to learn how to use and the video is excellent quality. It is easily converted over to a Macintosh computer without extra software. I am truly enjoying my first experience with video since my time in photography beginning in 9th grade. (AND I'm not going to say how many years that has been! Let's just say enough to now what I'm doing most of the time but not enough to know everything.) This camera is a great introduction to the world of video photography! I love it!"

    ""Wow!!!
Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder is a great performer, just make sure you have adequate light. Sony's low light capabilities is the main drawback here. Sony's "Blue Noise" in low light situations is a bummer- and reason for only 4 stars. Other than that, when shooting outdoors this weekend in broad daylight, I captured beautiful wildlife footage. Make sure to buy an HDMI cable to view the true beauty of your footage on your TV. I viewed mine on a 27 inch Sony Bravia, and I was floored. The quality of HDV on this camera is surprisingly good. Oh and one last thing, get an eye glass cleaning cloth and take it with you. The touch screen LCD is good, but after a full 2 -3 hours using it, you will need to clean off fingerprints.
Enjoy!
P.S. Watch the DVD this camera comes with, it's a good place to start."

""I am quite pleased with Sony Handycam HDR-HC9 Camcorder so far, and have used it in situations where my HDR-FX1 would have been too bulky and conspicuous. The HC9 is a snap to use and its menu options with the touch screen are simple to operate. I was quite pleased with its performance though it doesn’t quite compare to my 3CCD FX1, especially in low light situations. Unlike my FX1 which is a fantastic low light camera, the HC9 tends to be a bit grainy under low lighting conditions. The xv color menu setting is too vibrant especially when using it along with the FX1, but with that option turned off it is great as a “B” camera in two camera shoots. I like the fact that it has an HDMI output, and have used it to play Final Cut HD edited footage on an HDTV with excellent results. Its small size along with a SONY SPK-HCD Underwater Sports Pack makes this the perfect camera to capture HD footage at the beach or a water theme park. The HC9’s ability to capture still pictures on a memory stick and the built in flash gives you two cameras for the price of one. I am looking forward not having to carry my FX1 on vacation this summer. I would recommend the NP-FH100 Battery Pack, the LCS-MX100 Carrying Case, and a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo as options. I would also suggest that ONLY SONY HDV Tape be used in HD Cameras for best results. Mixing different brands of DV Tape can cause head clogs and other problems.
Don’t let the small size of this camera fool you, it is a powerhouse for the money and I would highly recommend if you are interested in High Definition Video."
