""I bought Sony Handycam DCR SR45 Camcorder after doing some research online and am pleased with the video quality and the ease of use. I was hoping for the video quality to be perfect but it will never be unless I am willing to shell out $1500 for a top of the line camcorder.
All in all, the camcorder is small, easy to use, and can go everywhere with me. The camcorder does take night shots but they do come out a haunted greenish color - but in complete darkness I can still get video - what more can I ask for. The controls are simple and the instructions even easier. I hate computers but installing the software was simple and quick. I can download everything in about 2 minutes and burn right to a CD. The battery life is great - my battery lasts about 1:30 mins. Not having a viewfinder was strange, but have not had any trouble with it. I can see the video in the bright sun and in the darkness.
The camcorder does what it says it will do which is record video. If you really want a camcorder/camera - this might not be the tool for you. I would recommend this to someone who wants a nice camcorder that will not force you to buy tapes, DVDs, or memory cards. 20 hours of recording is plenty of time for most people and if you need more, transfer it to your computer and you are set to go again."

I bought Sony Handycam DCR SR45 Camcorder after alot of research. I am through with tapes and didn't want mini DVDs. Hard drives are the way to go for the AVERAGE camera guy. I was worried briefly about this product because of the reviews. I have had no problems with it and enjoy it very much. The video is better that I had with my VHS-C by far. I don't have an HDTV so I dont know about how it looks on there. It looked fine on my normal TV, not plasma or LCD. I am a life long Sony camera buyer. I love their products, the quality and ease of use. Like all Sony products I didn't need to read the manual ti figure it out. I bought the package with the extra battery, case, and tripod.
PROS: Ease of use. Very small and light weight. It does have image stabilizer you just cant turn it on and off right when filming. You have to set it up before hand. It does fade, again you have to set it up before hand not jus thit a button while filming. Worked with my Mac. I have iMovie 08. Called Sony direct and they stated it will only work with iMovie 08 not 07 or HD. Again, average guy using it for average things like birthdays parties and kids programs at school.
Cons: I don't know how excited I am about the tough screen. Have a friend who has had one for about three years and has no problems with his. Also, a Sony. The digital stills are absolutely terrible. My 6 year old cybershot with 3mp takes better pics. Again, its for recording not pics.
I would recommend this to the average guy in the average family doing average camcorder things. Remember, we are not professional video people. If you want it to be HD on your HDTV, get an HD camera. I found it to be the best product out there for the price. Hope this review helped."

    "I bought Sony Handycam DCR SR45 Camcorder for my husband birthday. With the birth of our second child on the way we wanted to get our video camera instead of constantly borrowing my brother in-laws. My husband messed around with most of the features and so far he loves it. Its perfect for what our simple uses. We have only used it so far to record home video's and it's easy to hook up to your television and view it right away or even view it right on your camera. I was surprised with all the little sound that it picked up when we went back and played it. I love the little touch screen, it makes the only the buttons that you need visible, visible when needed to be. I also like that there is no lens cap, because that is also built in an automatically closes when you shut the camera off. And the camera was much more mini than I thought, which fits perfectly in your hand. Even the bag is compact. The only thing that I was surprise about is that the camera doesn't have a view finder, everything you do you have to look at the screen. Which I always did, so it didn't bother me a bit. Now a days no one use it when you have a screen to look at. The camera was great all around, great picture quality and also has a night mode feature so you can shoot in the dark. "
