Panasonic SDR-H60 HHD Camcorder

Advanced O.I.S. Reduces Camera Shake, Even at 50x Zoom
The SDR-H60's 50x optical zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic closeups or get remarkable shots of even distant subjects. But with long-distance zoom shots, even a tiny bit of hand shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where Panasonic's Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) comes in, suppressing the effects of hand shake as you shoot. The system uses gyrosensors to detect hand shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to compensate. This all happens a remarkable 4,000 times per second. And because the system is optical, no image quality is lost. Thanks to Advanced O.I.S., the images you capture look incredibly clear, sharp and blur-free even at high zoom levels.
Non-Stop Shooting Fun with 60GB Hard Drive
Holding as much data as 43 DVD discs, the Panasonic SDR-H60 HHD Camcorder 's 60GB1 internal hard disk drive lets you record continuously for up to 54 hours (in LP mode).
Anti-Shock Shield Helps Protect Your Memories
Panasonic SDR-H60 HHD Camcorder's Anti-Shock Shield helps protect recorded video data from damage due to jolts and impact. The Drop Detect function senses if the camera is falling and moves the head away from the hard disk. The Floating Structure protects the hard disk should the camera fall or be dropped. And the Buffer Memory automatically backs up data while the camera is falling.
One-Touch DVD Copying
This hard disk drive camcorder has a USB Host function, which lets you connect directly to a DVD burner (sold seperately) via a USB cable. You can then copy recordings from the hard disk to a DVD disc by simply pressing a button.
Edit Your Videos
You can transfer the motion-image data from the SD card or the camcorder's hard drive right to your PC2 using your PC's USB port. Then with the included VideoCam Suite 1.0 software, you can easily put scenes in a different order and delete the ones you don't want. When you're finished with your video production, you can resave the edited version onto an SD memory card and a DVD disc.

Panasonic SDR-H60 HHD Camcorder user reviews
Cons: XP only sees 698 GB of disk space. What happened to the remaining 52GBs?
Other Thoughts: The cost of the drive is truly amazing for the amount of disk space. However, I was really disappointed to see that XP only recognizes 698GB out of 750GB disk space. So far, the drive has been performing well.

Camera:
Small, ergonomic, long record time, easy transfer to computer, good quality image.
The tripod:
Two small levels, a very tall reach, and a very solid feel.
The monopod:
Less sturdy than the tripod, but still a great feel.
Cons: There isn't any audio-in for the camera, and the sound isn't completely stellar.
Other Thoughts: This is a dream come true for someone who wants a no hassle non-professional quality recording. Already I am dreaming about the time I am saving never having to deal with miniDV's ever again.
"
Cons: Picture quality isn't that great. I tested out the video and played it back on my plasma TV and it looked worse than any SD channel i get.
Where's the picture editing menu? Can't record in b/w, night vision mode, sepia, etc?
Just seems to be lacking a lot of the features I had with my HI-8 camcorder.
Other Thoughts: I haven't played around with the software yet, and perhaps there are more editing features on it.
Maybe I just need more time with it?
Overall it is a great value for what I'm getting, but you get what you pay for...should have spent the few hundred extra and bought an HD camcorder...

Picture quality is great and is DVD quality. Battery last a long time and charges in a charging dock so you don't have to have the camera on. USB cable is supplied to hook up to your computer. If you hook up to your TV don't be alarmed that the picture quality is bad. I was upset at first but then realized it's because they supply you with RCA wires to hook up to the TV. The quality that gets recorded to the computer is a thousand times better.
Last year I bought a Samsung mini DVD recorder and although it takes great video, you cannot transfer to a computer if it's recorded to the DVD. I would definately recommend this camera for family memories. Obviously if you are filming movies buy a multi thousand dollar camera"
