"Pros: Canon VIXIA HG20 High Definition Camcorder works well in almost all situations with auto settings, the easy mode prevents those who are not tech friendly from doing much wrong while shooting and or deleting. 60GB Hard drive, plus flash drive, excellent zoom and image stabilizing. Wide shots at no zoom, you can get lenses to add on, bigger batteries, takes decent photos, quick to resume from standby (1 second) decent battery life with the included battery. no need to buy extras right off. Lots of other features to use on the fly. Fits just right into almost all hand sizes, zoom and picture button are in the right place, screen swivels and pivots easily, true HD support plus some extra options there.

There isn't much this camcorder can't do. I shot some video and watched it on a standard TV (480P), my projector (790P/1080i), and a HD LCD (1080i) and all looks awsome and clean.

Cons: Right after I bought it they added a free tripod setup. :(

Night movies are grainy at very low light, sometimes the autofocus has a hard time choosing what object to focus on, the audio field is somewhat limited, and the contrast between light and dark transistions is a bit slow.

Other Thoughts: Wish I would have waited to get the combo deal. If you are a serious shooter be sure to get a extra battery, or if on the move get a power inverter and keep it plugged in. For people just starting, take lots of movies and play with the settings, learn to use this camer to the full. no reason to buy this and never use half of what it can do.

Really serious shooters can use this plus the correct lenses and a better mic to get great shots out of a small package. "

"Pros: Canon VIXIA HG20 High Definition Camcorder is just awesome, you dont need another camera to carry along while you are having this. Takes excellent pics in all light conditions and the optical stabilization is just great. If you plan to use optical zoom, better to carry a tripod along. Long list of features. HDMI output is a plus along with external stereo mic input.

Cons: average quality in low light conditions (looks grainy), but may need more tweaking with features to get it right

Other Thoughts: Copying to PC is a breeze as is with debian, not sure about Mac though as I am not a Mac person.

Use AVS Video Converter (also make sure you install all codec packs, k-lite pack), it works great. Just copy all .mts files and load them into AVS, it does the rest till burning dvd.

"Pros: Light weight, great picture. Haven't used the still image feature yet (probably won't ever). Would have given it 5 eggs if the camera would have come with a firewire port.

Cons: LCD image screen is somewhat smaller than I would like. Bundled Pixela Image Mixer 3 software would not run properly (Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit), so unable to to transfer video (MTS file type) to computer using it. Also, does not have a firewire port (only USB port) so cannot view/import videos using the Pinnicle Studio Ultimate software that I have. With the USB connection though, I can browse Canon VIXIA HG20 High Definition Camcorder's hard disk from the computer and copy the video files manually to the computer's hard drive. Then I can use Pinnicle Studio to open them. Awkward but it works.

Other Thoughts: The HG21 is currently $300 more than this HG20, and includes a 120Gb hard drive (twice the size) and an eye-point viewer LCD which I have always preferred for shooting. TO save battery power, it will still record with the fold-out screen closed though. You just have to start the recording with the viewer open, and then close it. As far as the hard drive size, I transfer the video to computer before the hard drive ever gets close to full so the HG21 is not really needed for me.

"I did a ton of research on High definition camcorders and settled on the Canon Vixia HG20 HDD. Canon VIXIA HG20 High Definition Camcorder is easy to use, the pictures look great, and the hard drive has tons of space - even at the highest quality setting. I have a Mac, and the video clips imported very easily using iMovie and the photos imported right into iPhoto. I didn't even bother to install the software that came with the camcorder.
My only disappointment is that the camera does not come with a battery charger - so you either have to buy one on your own, or you have to plug the camera in to charge it.
Aside from that...I could not be happier with this purchase!! "

"I didn't Like Canon VIXIA HG20 High Definition Camcorder clarity with this one. I had used an older model of the Sony and felt the clarity and image stabilization to be better.
The video clarity os Ok but image stabilization is bad..The videos were shaky and software wasnt great. The video gets stuck when I play it on my Laptop. I was expecting a lot more from Canon but was a bit disappointed. I am not sure if this particular peice had a problem but I had to return it after purchase..I suggest you check it out in a store and buy it if you are happy with it. "
