Aiptek A-HD Camcorder user reviews
The downsides to this camera are low-quality digital zoom. Picture and video quality suffers under less than ideal lighting conditions. Video audio quality is only good for recoding the camera operator due to the type and position of the microphone.
Another issue is video editing. The H.264 format is not widely supported yet but that is due to change in the near future. Editing is difficult and the format is not completely supported at a relatively low bit-rate. "
Photos are clear, although the lens is not the best. The 4x digital zoom is as good as any, but at full zoom the image is a little fuzzy. The shutter response time is slow, but if you want action shots use the video instead.
Each video scene is stored on an SD chip as a separate movie, in .mov format with H.264 and AAC compression.
The camera interfaces with computers via USB with fast and easy downloads using any number of downloading software, at least one of which is built-in to both Mac OSX and Windows.
This will not replace my other video cameras with optical zoom and good lenses, nor will it replace my other digital still cameras.
But it is levels above cell phone quality and storage. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well. "
The Aiptek A-HD Camcorder is a great point-and-shoot camcorder. It does pretty well with indoor lighting and great in outdoor lighting. For the price you can't go wrong.
Be sure to buy the faster writing SDHD cards because if you get the cheapo SD cards you will see noise - especially in lower lighting situations.
"
Battery holds a good charge. I use it once a week and haven't had to recharge it in a month. Love that it recharges on mini USB. Same cable as my blackberry. As such, can easily recharge it in the car using blackberry cable, if battery is low -- no need to find a walll socket at the beach!
Has no image stabilization. Not too bad if you hold the camera steady, but would be a great additional feature.
Night time / low light recording is so-so, but not a huge negative given its light, portable, holds a good charge, and easily recharged.
Overall, I would recommend it.
PS. I bought an 8GB SDHC card for storage. Holds fours hours of video at best quality settings. This is serious advantage relative to the 60 mins I got on my minDV camcorder. "
